Steve Wyrick: closure an illusion?

20081020_002819A statement released by Steve Wyrick shows that he rivals Criss Angel in his ability to stare reality in the face and see something totally different. Wyrick’s theater in Planet Hollywood’s mall closed last week.  At first there was no response from Wyrick’s camp. Then, apparently after taking it through some drafts, a “final” statement was issued filled with no information and vague promises along with a denunciation of those (including the Review-Journal and Associated Press and this blog) who reported the closure of the still closed theater:

“We would like to clarify the misinformation in circulation regarding reports that the Steve Wyrick Theater has closed.  The Theater is temporarily dark, but it is expected to re-open and resume full operation before the end of the month.   The unannounced closure was due to unexpected circumstances.  Our goal and intent is to retain our current staff and continue to provide live entertainment from the Steve Wyrick Theater located in Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood.”

Unexpected circumstances? The release goes on to note Wyrick “has successfully operated his magic/illusion stage show at the Steve Wyrick Theatre since January, 2007.” Um, it’s closed.

Anyway, part of the problem is that there are a lot of theaters  in that mall excluding the theaters actually inside Planet Hollywood (where Peepshow dwells). Even without Wyrick’s venue there remains the V. Theater inside the Planet Hollywood mall and the Harmon Theater outside where the Amazing Johnathan still performs.  (Photo: Sarah Gerke)

Unless Wyrick’s a hell of a magician, I’d rather go to Peepshow and see Holly Madison take her top off. It’s odd — I wasn’t really into her when I saw her in Playboy, but when I see pictures of her now, I think she looks really cute. Something must be wrong with me.
