As someone who's been to medical conferences for work, and growing up, I just wanted to say Dr G already nailed most of the thoughts that came into my head --I just wanted to also add that doctors, like lawyers, need to keep taking continuing education to keep up their licenses, so conferences are a popular place for them to knock down a whole bunch at once (doctors tend to use method more than lawyers), so there's a big incentives for all these specialists to go. Another big city for these is New Orleans.

im staying at a vegas hotel full of surgeons, i guess they meet here once a year, they consume mass quantities of buffet food and get drunk on light ass beer, then theyre off to see the strippers with their eyes glued to her g...but i dont think i would ever let them cut on me!...jimmy buffett (more or less) i love las vegas and i think every convention should be here, but, lets face it, its the draw of the bright lights that bring the convention attendees..the conventions are all about the mini, tax deductible, vacation!

I've been to a number of medical conferences in Las Vegas over the last several years.

The main reasons why you'll find a lot of medical conferences and conventions in Las Vegas are:

1. Popular destination - best reason by far, and perhaps the main reason why the same conference held in Las Vegas versus any other city will likely fill up faster.

2. Family friendly activities - most of us bring along our spouses/children to these conferences, and Las Vegas always has something else going on for the people who aren't going to the conference.

3. Good selection of hotel rooms at places other than the conference hotel - I'll usually stay at a casino/hotel I want to visit, and attend the conference at another location, rather than do it all on the same site. This is easy to do in Vegas.

I don't envision medical conferences ever leaving Las Vegas. The ones held there are just too popular.
