I know I have had issues with Steve Wyrick in the past. Last time I spoke to the former magician he promised me a better explanation than the one he was then peddling for one of his tricks that messed up. That explanation never arrived. Then, when his nightclub/vanity-performance-space/and-killer-of- many-shows/ showroom at Planet Hollywood’s mall shutdown due to his failure to pay bills, he insisted that too was an illusion and all would be well before year’s end (the year being 2009).
Wyrick still hasn’t explained what he was thinking at those moments. But one thing his recent bankruptcy filing makes clear, he had an almost magical ability to get people to extend him credit. According to Las Vegas Sun Wyrick listed “assets of $93,157 against liabilities of $54.355 million.”
These days, according to Las Vegas Sun, Wyrick claims he is paying his bills via $5,500 a month in “loans and gifts from [his] mother.”
That is sad. His mom should not have to pay so much to keep her son afloat. Rents and food are fairly cheap in Vegas now. I know. I live really well off far less than Wyrick is getting from his mom with this adult version of an allowance. And, no, I am not in a bubble; I too know about losing income in this recession. Everyone in Vegas knows how painful things have been; but usually only a casino company gets the right to borrow and owe as much money with so few assets as Wyrick. He makes Wayne Newton look like an amateur shirker by comparison. Still I bet none of that makes the many people who lost money staging shows that swiftly closed in Wyrick’s former theater or the investors who have lost tens of millions of dollars with nothing to show for it (unless Wyrick’s mom wants to pay them, too) feel any better.
Anyway, a job is a job, and so in that spirit, I called up David Saxe who has taken over Wyrick’s former showroom in the Planet Hollywood mall. Saxe is now creating a Vegas themed show in this space, the very room so many people lost so much money by believing in Wyrick. I asked Saxe if he could help out Wyrick and his mom by offering the guy any sort of job at the theater. I suggested that Saxe see it as a sort of awful businessman version of community service. But, sadly, Saxe seemed dubious even when I pointed out the advantages that a magician/janitor would have simply by making the garbage disappear. Finally, Saxe offered: “He is welcome to come to our next job fair. We will need box office, and waiters and ushers.”
Well, I tried. Sorry, Steve Wyrick.
One final idea: Maybe Criss Angel can hire you as “ghost of Christmas yet to come.” (Photo: Lanie Crossman)

Without going into much detail, I have a very close friend who is a professional musician who basically lost a good paying engagement at his theater in Planet Hollywood, solely based upon Mr. Steve Wyrick’s inability to pay bills, ending up in inability to pay for anything to do with his lounge and theater. This ended the relationship.
I am happy to say my friend, because of his incredible professionalism and impeccable working credentials, was able to weather this. Although he now has to travel around the U.S. with other acts to earn money, he is content to know that he maintains his professionalism and dedication to his ability to provide quality music, thereby entertaining people to the best of his abilities.
But, probably the main point I guess I’m probably trying to bring up is that he was hoping for a steady job in Las Vegas, based upon his professionalism and expertise.
But he ran into a person who is so full of himself that he shrouded himself in smoke and mirrors…basically believing magic, not only on stage, but in real life, would mask his ulterior purposes…making money and having to pay nothing out…some serious abracadabra shit.
But it came back to bite him in the ass.
I am proud to proclaim that my friend has ended up okay. While Steve Wyrick is mired in bullshit of his own making.
Forgive me, Richard, but I know my friend and I respect his wishes for anonymity. I am keeping it general. Because I know he wouldn’t bring stuff like this out in the open. He’s too proud to do that. And I respect his wishes. This is actually a testament to his character.
But, as an impartial observer, I feel I’m obligated to throw it out there…for anyone to make of it whatever they want to. And keeping it as obscure as possible…to respect my friend’s wishes…and keep him in the background. I just feel it must be brought out…but without naming names.
However it plays…it is a sad situation that only outlines greed and the desire to make money…and provide absolutely nothing in return. This is Steve Wyrick’s legacy.
Both of your ridiculous comments are too personal. I will never click on another ad on this site again.
When you throw all of your troubles in a pile, you will grab yours back when you see everybody elses.
God bless you Mr. Wyrick,we loved your show, wish i had the money to loan you.
