In a recession it is easier to hire people who will pretend to be tricked than to come up with good magic tricks. That is my theory. Criss Angel is releasing a magic kit. Maybe it will be so good that people will be impressed by the tricks?
Well, hint, it does not seem like Criss Angel wants to take that risk.
For Angel’s infomercial he is going to a talent agency to hire: “Girls in bar to react to magic acts (ages 21-35)” among other jobs. By the end, in the infomercial to sell you the magic kit apparently the demonstration will be augmented by actors who do the tricks, and actors to be impressed by the tricks. Then there are the usual camera angels and edits to support the tricks. Doesn’t that seem like it will be as much fun to use at home once you are parted from your money?
Still, no doubt it is time to get ready for barrage of Angel hyperbole on how unique and great a magic kit he is hawking by apparently using all the traditional techniques that every other cheesy celebrity infomercial uses.
If the kit were any good, why hire people to be impressed? Here is a challenge for Criss Angel: For the infomercial document giving the magic kits to randomly selected people and then tape them a couple hours later trying to use the Criss Angel magic kit to impress anyone at a Vegas bar.
That is not happening. But, apparently, instead of that fun, this casting call will offer you the honor to “participate in filming an infomercial with top celebrity magician Chris Angel.” One thing: don’t expect to be well compensated (unless your name is Criss Angel). At the bottom there is a grudging notice “There is some pay.” Some pay: like this is for charity? Suckers.

Long overdue Jim (why is the typeface in all comments so huge?) I stopped my kids from reading Criss twitter because of several LOYALS on there whose comments are just low-class, vile & disgusting (they all have this fantasy that Criss is in love with them, because he smiled at them, or was gracious to them, etc.), as well as several 18-20 yr. olds roaming the Luxor on a weekly basis, hoping to “run into him”, strike up a friendship, hope they will hire them (yeah, he wants FANS working for him), hope they will be so dazzled w/them that he will immediately whisk them to his castle & pay their bills, instead of getting jobs & gtting a LIFE. I’ve read in the newspaper that the new highway bridge spanning the gorge across the Colorado River south of Hoover Dam will have its official grand opening in November this year.
Not sure if that is adequate enough to serve the purpose. But it pays to plan and be ready…..
I’m not that into Criss angel anymore, but I’ve got to add my 2 cents here. I don’t usually comment on these things, but I’ve had enough of the Criss Angel bashing and mostly the Loyal-bashing all over the web. You’re making fun of people who travel to Vegas in hopes of seeing someone they admire – their idol. There’s nothing wrong with that. Its called being a fan. It happens all the time at concerts too. Fans waiting outside after a show, hoping to get an autograph or a photo. Criss Angel obviously appeals to all kinds of people for different reasons and anyone has a right to travel to see a performer they admire. Angel is a very public person and advertises when he is taping so anyone can come watch and particpate. He also put his production office right in the middle of a public hotel with windows, so anyone could watch him. I’m sure he’s happy to see the same people show up, as any performer would be. If it weren’t for his loyal fans, Angel might not have that many people in the audience of Believe. Most of his fans have seen the show more than once, and no matter how bad anyone says it is, his fans will keep going back. I doubt he or his TV crew is laughing at the fans or ‘running’ from them, as some of you claim. They shoudl be happy there are people that want to see his show. On the other hand, I”m sure he and his crew are upset with articles like this. I’m amazed at how much bashing there is about him a person who just wants to enterain people & bring some joy into this world. Just google his name and almost every article written by a so-called journalist is bashing him, as are all the comments. I highly repect Criss angel just for the simple fact he doens’t respond to these childish taunts and trash talk. And so what if girls post half naked pics of themselves in hopes that he’ll see it. People seem to like defending Criss Angel BeLIEve at the Luxor all the time on your pointed blogs. And they do it by pointing at his television success coupled with Loyals devotion licking the ground he walks on and somehow marrying it up to his private life. It’s all smoke and mirrors of judging this idiot based on what he looks like rather than what he can do.
I really am not interested in this asshole’s private life, commenters. He could sodomoize a male water buffalo in the middle of the Luxor swimming pool in broad daylight and I won’t comment. I could care less.
The problem I have is that tourists are being fleeced left and right by Cirque du Soleil and their false advertising.
The glaring fact of this matter is this show is NOT any way shape or form indicative of what his television show is about. To put them together is like night and day.
If you don’t believe Richard Abowitz or any of the other serious theater/show reviewers here in Las Vegas, go to Yelp dot com. Criss Angel BeLIEve in Las Vegas, NV is in there. So far there are 175 reviews, not by newspapers, but by audience members. And of those 175 reviews, the grand total average of this show is one and a half stars (on a scale of one to five ratings (five is outstanding)). This is abysmal for a show on the famed Las Vegas Strip. People, it’s a downright embarrassment. Not for the Luxor, but for the other casinos that are trying to provide quality entertainment. To have Criss Angel BeLIEve grouped with them is like putting whipped cream on a hotdog. Criss Angel BeLIEve is no comparison to other shows.
And then you add the fact of Criss Angel’s inappropriate and bordering on criminal behavior ever since he has been here in Las Vegas.
It was verified he threatened to blind a one-eyed Las Vegas Review Journal entertainment reporter after a nationally televised event at MGM Grand. Then, for a period of six months afterward, he arrogantly tried to defend himself to reporters by saying it didn’t happen. Then, coinciding with the grand opening of BeLIEve, he meets with the reporter and finally apologizes to what he stated didn’t happen. And the timing of that is highly suspect. He was probably slapped severely by his higher ups at the Luxor and told to put it behind him and be a good boy. So he apologized only because someone was reaching into his wallet. Not out of sincerity.
He supposedly dated Holly Madison around the time of his grand opening at the Luxor. And this pairing broke up after it. It came out later that he only did that as a publicity stunt to detract away from his already horrible “soft openings” of his show. He used her.
Then, a year later, he cusses out another reporter during his show using obscene four letter language; a show attended by children. This incredible unprofessionalism, whether children are present or not, is basically a no no on any stage in the world (not unless it’s a part of the act…and this clearly wasn’t). MANY in Las Vegas have been fired for doing idiocy like this. He gets a pass and still works. He doesn’t apologize for it neither. Cirque du Soleil does. They back up his behavior on stage. They stand by it. Because making money is more important than doing the right thing. Criss Angel gets a free ride.
In another instance, during his act where a banner unfurls revealing a word that Criss Angel supposedly guesses, a totally inappropriate word is picked. And this word not only enrages the audience, but also dancers on the stage that are part of the act. Criss Angel don’t say a word about this. Nor does Cirque du Soleil. They’re STILL interested in the money. Criss Angel could stand on stage orating “Mein Kampf” naked, cuss out the audience and take a crap in the middle of the stage and Cirque du Soleil’s publicity department would be searching desperately for an excuse to play it off.
The arrogance of this asshole continues. He does whatever he wants. He possesses zero talent on stage, exhibits nightly he is unable to have a rapport with a paying audience, demonstrates no ability to have stage presence, nor does he know how to put together a professional show that is supposed to flow and wow an audience on the famed Las Vegas Strip.
Criss Angel wins. Tourists lose. They pay full price and howl nightly how they were ripped off. Criss Angel takes bags of money to the bank and laughs about it all.
All because Cirque du Soleil soaked 100 million dollars on this show and they choose to take their poor business decision out on the paying public. Rather than doing the right thing and send this asshole packing.
You can write me off as a Criss Angel hater. But this is far from the truth.

And not only me, but many, many workers along the Strip pass on this information to tourists also. It’s a certainty. There is something bullying about the way some of you are piling on here. Believe is a terrible show and Cirque has kept putting off announcing that it is “fixated” because probably there is no fixing the mess. But fans respond to different things and I find it mean to mock someone mercilessly for dedication to a celebrity no matter how silly that dedication seems to others.

Criss Angel’s show was entertaining. It was not terrible and we had a great time. The stage show didn’t wow as much as his T.V. show, but it wasn’t a rip off. Richard, you are entitled to your opinion, but I really think you are unfair to CA. As far as the fans go, I am one, I am a woman, I am married, and I truly respect Criss FOR HIS WORK. As a woman, I find it offensive when other woman lack self-respect and demean themselves with the degree to which they behave. Children do read the tweets. I think some of these women make women look bad, and I find it embarassing. Be a fan, let him know you appreciate him, but have some perspective and self-respect.

Saw a great unbiased recent review of BeLieve on Genii Magazine. Called out some stuff that could use work, but also gave credit where credit is due. Besides a few tweeks, they loved the show overall. Just proves my point that I have said a hundred and one times. The haters are the most vocal on the internet, but they are not representative of the entire story. I really wish someone would listen and give credit for the other half of the story that for some reason every reporter and critic wants to ignore.

I am a Criss fan, not a FANATIC, fanatic is more like for people who think of nothing but Criss, and talk about nothing but Criss and purchase NOTHING BUT Criss Angel gear and so on…you get the picture.
Now this Loyals thing, I have respect for all fans, and this is nothing against anyone but the word Loyals in the sense of Criss Angel, sounds like a cult. That’s MY OPINION, so please don’t bark at me. But if you think about the word Loyals it does sound like a cult or some secret special club with VIP. These Loyals are people who are FANATIC, not saying all Loyals are but you get the idea.
Criss may not be as entertaining on stage, honestly I have not seen Believe yet, so I would not know, however on his show Mindfreak he is simply an entertainer, an ILLUSIONIST, that’s how the man makes a living. I could care less who he dates, what he ate, what he does in his personal life, what he does is what he does. I admire him for the entertainment he brings, which is magic and illusions.
Has it occured to anyone that perhaps Criss is under so much stress with his Vegas show and Mindfreak? Notice last season it was only five 1 hour episodes, he’s not trying to disappoint anyone, and I’m not defending him either, but since I have in my lifetime been an entertainer, I can say from experience, you CANNOT do it all, you CANNOT please everyone, and you CANNOT live on what others expect of you all the time.
Point is we are all human, and we all act out, and we all do stupid things and hang out with the wrong people, no one is saint, no one ever will be, we all learn from our mistakes, we all have personal things to sort out, that’s how I see things with Criss Angel, look at his eyes one day, there is more pain there than one will ever realize. No, I’ve never met him.
Who cares about his dating life. Sandra is just a back up girl. Obviously she is to young and stupid to realize that.
Criss Angel is a great performer and that is all that matters.
