The dangerous idiocy of Jenny McCarthy

This weekend Jenny McCarthy, who has been living here, hosted a party at the Palms. And, today Norm Clarke has a report on who she is dating. I was disturbed by the entire event and did not go. What had upset me was an interview with her that appeared in the Review-Journal. She told Review-Journal’s Doug Elfman of the party:

“I’m bringing my autism organization team in their bras and underwear to collect donations….you bring your credit card and do a big donation, you can hang out in my cabana for the rest of the night. But it has to be a big number.”

People who urge celebrities like Paris Hilton to do something useful with their fame should regard McCarthy as a living warning. Just because someone can host a party in Vegas does not mean she should be an activist for the world. Better for Paris Hilton to stick with the shoe lines than start offering up medical advice.  Here is  McCarthy being a totally sincere sounding nutcase. Above you can hear Penn of Penn & Teller explain exactly what is so crazy about her dangerously uninformed, conspiracy theory driven, view:

I don’t know how long it has gone on, but I can say with certainty that mothers have diagnosis shopped for at least 22 years. My sons were born around 1990 and, when they got school age, my wife decided they were “too active”. So, she went to different doctors, until she found one who would say they were ADHD. After a couple years of Ritalin, she got tires of messing with it and they were cured.
IMO, young mothers, especially single mothers of boys, want to be “abnormally burdened”. They want their children to be abnormal to a higher level than their own generation was ill. Boys that in the 70′s were “high spirited”, by the 90′s had to be ADHD, and now that’s not good enough. I think the new diagnosis is going to be “healable autism”. I wonder how many of these austic boys (and they’re all boys) are gonna be magically OK when they get over 12?
The problem with Jenny is that she is a typical, self absorbed, single mom, but she is extremely hot, so gets more attention than her crap-ass opinions deserve.

  3. I wrote this item after talking to a friend who is both a doctor and whose child has autism. I was totally surprised just how dangerous her advice and ignorant she was about the issue. What disturbs me most is not that she has crazy views, but that people like Larry King, Oprah and CNN (in the clip above) let her on to talk about what she “knows.” And, she knows nothing.

In a very dangerous way she is giving medical advice and media report it with a straight face or saying things— like in the above clip —that “technically” doctors and medical professionals and researches are all lined up against her. That is a lot more than a “technical” problem. It suggest she is spouting crazy, potentially dangerous nonsense. Have her on Larry King to talk about bathing suits or Playboy or how to date a famous comedian or something. But Autism research and treatment is not something that is being served by more bad information like the kind she supplies. Yrs. ,R.

Is anyone surprised? Jenny McCarthy couldn’t even handle her own son’s seizure disorder/ She had to turn it into a money making adventure for herself! She hijacked the autism label, though her child, according to even Time Magazine, probably NEVER had autism. This chick is perhaps one of the most manipulative bimbos to ever infiltrate the autism community. RUN Jim. Run. You deserve much better! This moron McCarthy is out of your league. She’s only with someone so long as they can bring her something. Too bad she isn’t in it for her son, who spends most his time with nannies, while Jenny gets facials, massages, has a personal trainer, driver, bodyguard, talant agency, stupid lying publishers and parasite professionals who feign they know something about autism, the autism her son never had. This is such a JOKE! No disprespect to her son. He’s a doll. But he never had autism. Poor Jenny. What is wrong with her?

oh, and Oprah and Jenny share the same new age views? Have you connected that? And what is the media smoking?

Oh Jenny. Poor Jenny. We love ya baby we really do, but it’s time you admit to your fans and the public that your son never had autism because you’re really pissing off a lot of people who have truly autistic children.
