Rod Stewart in Vegas: See for yourself

Footage posted from Rod Stewart’s opening show at the Caesars. If you are a fan of Stewart’s you probably don’t care that his voice sounds just awful on “Forever Young.” The chorus is painful as he gets inaudibly weak or his voice skitters off kilter.  Mike Weatherford teases out the question of Stewart’s vexed relationship with Harrah’s and how this batch of shows could audition Stewart for a residency at  Caesars. But if this video is any indication, the body and hair may be willing, but the voice just isn’t there.

Welcome back, Richard. I thought you disappeared or something.

I agree with you on Rod Stewart.

Showing my age, I think the best that ever came out of Rod Stewart was back in the days of the Faces (Stay With Me and other stuff), the gutter blues rock he sang when he was with The Jeff Beck Group and ending with his greatest achievement and the best album he ever did on his own…Every Picture Tells A Story. After that, I find the stuff he did was pretty much forgettable (with a few exceptions…like “People Get Ready” remake).

I guess the jury is out about him having a show at Caesars Palace.

I have a feeling he don’t want it. Because he has found a niche doing classics and jazz standards now. And he knows if he shows up as a headliner, he’ll want to do those. But people will scream for him to do “Maggie May” and other stuff like in that video you provided.

And also, like you said, the body might be willing but the voice went south.
