Her show does not open until next month but yesterday Celine Dion showed up and Vegas groveled at her feet. When she first came here in 2003, people wondered about her ability to sell tickets at prices that sailed as high as her irritating voice. Now she is a rare sure thing for Vegas: a town where hubris has been replaced by a scary lack of imagination and confidence. Anyway, Dion will have a show, and many high notes are assured with a Michael Jackson tribute. The woman who Elton John used to fondly call the “the skinny bitch” is back. This time around everyone knows her shows will sell out with tickets topping out at $250 plus fees.
