There was a time when Amy Winehouse was being looked at as a possible Vegas headliner. Her voice was compared to Aretha Franklin while her delivery and sound were contemporary. No, she was not Fiona Apple. But who knows what happened to the recording career of Fiona Apple? Still, Winehouse held a lot of potential. But something has gone horribly wrong. This concert from a few days ago in Belgrade resulted in the remainder of her tour being cancelled. Anyone else notice how often she rubs her nose?
Thanks for the link, Richard. On a musical level, that was painful to watch. Not for Amy Winehouse’s sake, but the professional band musicians surrounding her. I felt sorry for them they had to suffer through that.
During the video, I watched the bass player and the drummer all looking at each other, glancing at the entertainment director (somewhere off to the left), even offstage for someone to bail them out, and also reluctantly at Amy. At one point, the bass player stopped playing and pushed his earpiece into his ear trying to figure out where this song was, where it was going, did he hear that right? I did notice they were VERY professional in their craft though, even slowing down (imperceptibly) the beat to match her staggered beat, off-timing singing, somehow tryin to at least salvage what turned out to be nothing but utter failure. To no avail. Even at the end of that dismal performance, she seemed to be fighting against one of the singer/dancer’s suggestions by pushing him away, clearly staggering around the stage, messing up the lyrics. And yes, I did notice the preoccupation with her nose.
Those musicians need to take the money and run away. Far away.
She needs to hang it up. Drugs sloshing around in her brain pan cavity are her guide now.
Not an entertainment career.
And surely not one in Las Vegas.
But then again, after Criss Angel lasting so long in a horrible show at the Luxor, anything can happen in Las Vegas entertainment.
